DETAIL: Whitewater Rafting Trip Sept. 2010.

RSVP log:
YES: Kathy, Sheryl, Drew, Susan, Diane, Hailey, Laura, Shareema
NO: Kayla, Lia, Aimee, Alison

Here's the plan:
--We'll leave right after school lets out on Friday, September 10 (this is the first week of school, btw) and hit the road to White Haven, PA. It's 2-1/2 to 3 hours travel-time.
--We'll eat dinner (on the way or there at their BBQ Buffet, depending on schedules).
--We'll camp overnight (in tents...real tents on the ground).
--Saturday morning, we'll pack up the tents and stash the stuff in our vehicles.
--We'll pick up our PFDs, paddles and "box lunches" (or pack our own lunches, if we'd rather...we'll decide in advance).
--We get on a shuttle bus provided by the outfitter to take us to the starting-point.
--Then we hit the water in big rubber rafts (led by professional outfitters)! We'll eat lunch on the river, "shoot the rapids," swim (if you want), and have a great time.
--We'll be led to a take-out point downstream (just how far we go in miles depends on some things, like the speed of the current). We'll be "on the river" between 3 and 4 hours. We take a shuttle bus back to the campground and clean-up to go home.
--We'll leave late Saturday afternoon for a late Saturday evening return home.
***All of the above (except the date) is subject to change/adjustment as we get closer to the date***

Unfortunately, it'll not be really serious white-water...it's not a "dam-release" weekend....but hopefully we'll get enough rain to keep the river at a fun level/speed. Everyone WILL get at least a little wet....splashed on, and at the end you jump out and "walk" the raft to the riverbank....and you might have to "walk" the raft along the river in shallow spots, depending on the river's condition.

What you need to know now:
--The cost will be in the neighborhood of $100.00 (max).
--This is the same outfitter/location that many Scouts in the area have been using for years (Kathy and Sheryl have both been on trips there). The website is http://www.whitewaterchallengers.com/lehigh/lehigh-whitewater.asp. There's so much on the website that it'll be confusing to look at it, but you can get an idea...it's a big operation. Their FAQ page is: http://www.whitewaterchallengers.com/lehigh/lehigh-faq.asp
--Save your OLD sneakers for this trip (as long as they still fit). You'll wear them while rafting and playing in the river....there are rocks on the bottom and "real sneakers" are better than water shoes.
--You won't need your own tent, as Kathy and Sheryl both seem to be compulsive tent-collectors, but you'll want a real sleeping bag (not a "slumber bag") if possible....plan to borrow one from someone if you don't have one.
--We need to know WHO IS INTERESTED/ABLE to come so we can make the reservation....the actual cost partly depends on the numbers.

Please EMAIL me ASAP to let me know you're interested (or if you're not/can't go); We'll figure out when the exact $ is due and get back to you.
